Well I'm driving through the backroads of Alabama headed to Starkville, MS to catch up with my man Uncle Kracker for a couple shows. He's out on the Kenny Chesney tour and asked us to jump in on some of the shows he's booked in between the stadiums. I can't wait. I know my band, The Truth is really excited as well. Were old friends with the Kracker band and everyone is from Detroit. Whenever you get 20 Detroit boys in one place there's gonna be a good time had no matter where we're at.
Anyway, I thought that this might be a great time to catch up on my blogging. This year has been quite an incredible experience. It began with a move to Nashville. The bank finally foreclosed on the house I grew up on and we had to be out by the first of the year. It was very sad to leave, but I was excited to spend some time in Nashville and really dig into my songwriting. It feels like I’ve only been able to sleep in my own bed ten nights this year, but I still feel like the move paid off for the time being. I’ve gotten to write with Ben Hayslip, Rhett Akins, Jimmy Yeary and Ken Johnson. I’m really excited to be able to work with guys of this caliber. I love the songs that we’re doing. It’s really nice to walk into a writing session with an idea and an open mind and walk out with an amazing song. I couldn’t be more into it.
We also completed our part of the Born Free Tour with Kid Rock and Jamey Johnson. We did 27 shows that started in Detroit at Ford Field and ended in Memphis, TN with a rousing rendition of FreeBird.
What an experience that was. It’s pretty much any musicians dream to be able to go into those arenas and play for so many people, and I feel like we all took it all in and enjoyed every minute of it. My favorite part was getting so much great feedback from Rock and Jamey. Advise from such world-class artists and entertainers is priceless. I couldn’t have asked for a more rewarding trip.
We also got to play showcases at SXSW and CRS this year and both couldn’t have went better! The band is just killing it every night, and people are really responding so well to what we’re doing. It’s so cool to see my music and career growing and growing right in front of me. I feel like I’ve been close to this point before, but this time around everything feels different. I’m starting to grow in my faith that my single, American Style is going to get out this summer, and we might even be able to get this record out. I’ve been waiting a very long time for this, so to see it start materializing in front of me is pretty incredible, but I retain the right to remain slightly skeptical until I actually but a copy at Walmart. ;)
Next up after these Kracker dates is the Kid Rock Chillin the Most Cruise. This will be my second cruise with Rock, and I’m excited that I’ll have my band out with me this time as well. That’s gonna be so awesome! Everyone is almost giddy about the potential for fun and after a hard fought three months of Rock & Roll I think everyone deserves a little Rest & Relaxation.
So I’m going to try to keep up on blogging from now on. Please drop us a line or leave us a comment on the discussion board. We always look forward to talking to our friends and fans, and thank you guys so much for all of your love and support!
God Bless!
