Ty Stone and The Truth Review
April 23, 2011 - Harrah's Casino Theatre, New Orleans, LA
In the 9 times I've seen Ty Stone perform in the past 11 months, as I sing along to each and every song, I'm constantly being asked by the overwhelmed people standing next to me, "hey, who's this guy?" and "where is he from?". I am always happy to answer, "that's Ty Stone and The Truth, and they're from Detroit!"
I've been awed by Ty Stone's acoustic and vocal talents ever since May 2010 when I first saw him perform two solo acoustic sets on the Kid Rock Chillin' the Most Cruise. Since then I've seen him on the Rehab Tour last fall, and saw him open for Uncle Kracker, both here in Texas.
Heading into the 2011 Kid Rock Cruise in early April, I was definitely eager to see him perform for the first time with the addition his band, The Truth, to put the final touches on the full musical experience. Complete with lead and rhythm guitar, a bass player, and drummer, each of his three shows on the boat did not disappoint. The Truth took the show to a whole new level, giving it a great vibe and feel.
Beyond Ty’s obvious personal talents and in regards to his shows themselves, my most recent experiences this past weekend, has finally convinced me that his talents are beyond comparison. After watching Ty and The Truth perform twice in Louisiana, I am furthermore committed that there is superstar on the horizon.
With a seemingly ever expanding set list, Ty's shows are always adding something new, whether it's one of his own tunes or a legendary borrowed cover, which always serve as a great compliment his own musical stylings. I was excited to hear a personal favorite, “Anywhere's Better”, the fourth track from the new American Style CD. Saturday night in the Harrah's Casino Theatre in New Orleans, in front of a solid crowd, which included movie star Ray Liotta, he finished his set with one of those enormous covers, The Black Crowes’, "Twice as Hard".
As his shows continually has people asking for more, the next time one of those impressed and newly made fans, asks me "who is this guy?" and "where is he from", my answer is going to be: "Well, they're from Detroit. The band is The Truth, because they are indeed 'the truth', and he's Ty Stone and he is 'UNDISPUTED'!"
